• Welcome To Formby Village Bowls Club

  • Hello and welcome to the website for Formby Village Bowls Club, a part of the Formby Village Sports Club

Come along and enjoy the many health and social benefits of crown green bowling.
The club is open from 8.00 am to 11.00 pm seven days a week and we have many social and league bowling events scheduled every day.
Beginners are encouraged to take advantage of our free coaching sessions and we can loan bowls to you until you find the right size and weight that is good for you.
Our members are very friendly and we welcome new members at any time of the season which generally runs from March to October. We then hold social events during the winter months such as whist drives, quiz nights, cheese and wine tasting etc.

    Dear members

As the majority of you will be aware the green was officially declared open for play on Saturday 22nd March. It was fantastic to see so many members attending the open afternoon with tea and biscuits, and the cakes baked by some of the ladies were delicious, thank you so much Ladies for your efforts. Thank you to the green keeping team (The Cutting Crew) and Dave Jones for getting the green in such good condition over the winter months which were difficult to deal with.

A change to our social calendar has been introduced this season.

Following a successful trial of a "Round Robin" social bowling event at last summers open day, the committee is to run this event each Friday afternoon, starting at Friday 4th April. Andy Muchall has kindly volunteered to manage the event. Play will commence at 1:00 p.m., open to all members regardless of ability. All members should arrive by 12:45 p.m. to sign on.

There will be an entry fee of £2.00 to play with 40% of the £2 entry fee will be returned in prize money on the day; the rest will go to providing tea and biscuits and the remainder goes to the club.

On the day, as soon as final numbers are known, players will be placed randomly in groups of four and given a small card to record their score at the end of each round. They will take it in turns to play with one member of their group against the other two members of their group in a doubles match keeping their own score.

If we have more than 20 members turning up a ticketing system will ensure members are not waiting long to play.

Hopefully during the Round Robin you will have the opportunity to play with other members of different abilities that you normally would not meet up with. Better players will have an opportunity to pass on playing tips to less experienced members. Have fun!

Unorganised social bowling is suspended for the duration of the event.
